Water requirements are written on the label marked accordingly for the product. When mixing, use a 5 gallon stir stick to scrape the inner sides on the bucket to loosen any undiluted plaster and mix again. Universal tints, such as used in paint products work fine. Just don't use one tint called 'Charisma Colorants'. We don't why but this does strange unwelcomed things to our products. With powder tints, you have to be a little careful sometimes. Some powders have their own natural chemistry which can also change the makeup of the plaster, such as making it very stiff. We usually recommend powders and in our Lime Wash. This is a far more cost effective use of the pricier powders. Lastly, we sell tints (liquid) which are zero VOC low owder.
